TA21 - Carburettor linkage ball joints

Postby RichardWallach » Thu Jan 04, 2018 8:56 am

I'm looking for a pair of original ball joints for the carburettor linkage. They were used from the 30's onwards and use a 2BA thread. I know that a modern version is available but I would like to keep originality. The part number is C1857. RT sell the modern version.

Richard,
Interesting question! I've just been adjusting the advance/retard linkage on the Speed 25, and found the spring loaded ball joint at the distributor not to my liking and would like to replace with something more precise. The thread sizes appear to be 10-32 BS from my Whitworth tap & die set. I see 2BA is 0.1850 inch whereas my 10-32 BS is 0.19. Could they be interchangeable?

How about these: http://www.astonstore.co.uk/product/Thr ... _RH_125525

John,

Happy New Year to you.

I suspect that the thread difference is so marginal that it would be OK. There is a fair amount of play in my fittings and it is not due to wear. Thankyou for the link. The one illustrated bears a closer resemblance to the original than the replacement versions I have seen.

Regards,

Richard

Thanks Richard,

A '67 AH3000 owning pal bought three sets. First from www.mossmotors.com which were sloppy Chinese repros. Second set from www.victoriabritish.com were much better, and period correct (for AH3000). The last set from http://tomsimport.com/new/parts/parts.asp?sect=37&new=1 were the best, but not period correct, which you originally wanted. And none near Melbourne!

As an aside, are you planning to participate in the 2019 Alvis Down Under Centenary Tour?

Cheers!
John
